This is a continuation of my previous post on the overuse of apostrophes or the incorrect use thereof.
This is your house.
The dog held out its paw.
The apostrophe takes the place of the omitted letters when we connect two words in a contraction:
You’re (You are) going to the new school starting in August.

It’s (It is) a big mistake to cheat on your final exam.
I was on the road recently and saw an advertisement on a wrapped car. Without naming names, there again was the incorrect use of “its.” The advertisement was for a special type of saddle for horses, describing how it is comfortable for the horse and IT’S rider. So....it would be comfortable for the horse and IT IS rider?
The first question is “Who wrote that?” The second question is “Where was the proofreader to review the design before it went to print?”
Advertising is key to companies that are new. Marketing your website, your product, your service, WHATEVER, must go smoothly. Potential leads are reading about your product, and you want those leads to CONTINUE to read your details – not stop when they see a basic grammar error. So take the time and care to REVIEW YOUR WRITING.
That writing could be a blog post, an Instagram caption, Facebook post, YouTube title, or more. Yes, these are important too! Most of us think immediately of dissertations, manuscripts, and other essays for school when we talk about writing. However, ‘writing’ refers to all the things mentioned here, and then some.
Psst! Do you have a desire to write something, but are hesitant to start because you’re worried about your use of apostrophes and other spelling/grammar concerns? I would love to be your proofreader. Contact me via this link or by messaging me directly via Facebook. I’m offering free services (first 200 words) to the first 3 clients who mention this blog post. This offer expires on August 31, 2023. Act now!
