Hello and "How do you do?" I am a freelance proofreader. I am also a full-time librarian.
My background is a bit of a hodgepodge of things: being a bookworm, college, court reporter school, medical transcription training, graduate school, and a course on freelance proofreading. Whew. I have been an avid reader all my life. I love an enjoyable book! I like to read memoirs, biographies, true crime, mysteries, thrillers, graphic novels, cookbooks, … anything except romance novels. Hey, if you like it, I love it – no judgment here. The Romance section is the one section I generally do not browse in libraries or bookstores.

Attending college brings with it a slew of writing assignments, so I spent the requisite time reading and editing my work for school assignments. When the opportunity presented itself, I attended the Stenotype Institute of Jacksonville. This was court reporting school. When I graduated, I was 8 months pregnant with my darling daughter. Shortly after graduating, we relocated to another state. Fast forward about 18 months from then, I returned to Florida with my daughter in tow, and I trained with Career Step, an online school for medical transcription. The Stenotype Institute and Career Step included medical terminology and English Grammar in their curricula, so my proofreading skills were reinforced even more. I worked as a medical transcriptionist for about a year and then started working in the public library system in 2006. I attained my master's degree in library and information science in 2018 and have been a librarian ever since.
I am one of those people who can see a spelling error a mile away. It jumps off the page/billboard/screen at me. Incorrect usage of to/too? Someone typed up a banner using the wrong its/it’s? Have you ever watched CNN or any other news channel and seen a glaring spelling error scrolling across the screen in huge letters? That is me, ladies and gentlemen.
